The main character, Joe Riley owns a store and is trying to save up enough money so he can one day purchase a piece of land in Arizona .  When he does finally save the money and buy the land he has no way to travel to Arizona since he has no money for a vehicle and no money left over for other means of travel.
 
He ends up hitchhiking and the film revolves around the adventures he has with a homeless man and a female immigrant whom he rides with to Arizona trying to reach his newly purchased property.
