Jeff Surrett is in charge of running an open cattle, which is not safe for the townspeople. The town is in need of a courageous and loyal Marshal, like Wade Hatton. He was part of the reason why the railroad was brought back. He is attracted to Abbie Irving, who wants nothing to do with him since he shot her brother.
