Mandy Jenkins gets into a fight with Eloise Jackson when she catches her on a date with her husband Cornell in a small cabaret in Birmingham, Alabama. Several months pass by and Eloise moves to Harlem, where she is about to star in a musical, produced and directed by Ted Gregory. Gregory has a lot riding on his plate since he hopes to be the first black producer to put on a show on Broadway. Mandy has also moved to Harlem and is hired by Gregory to be the wardrobe mistress. His secretary, Lena was the one to tell Gregory about Mandy. Gregory is in love with Lena, but problems arise when he doesn’t receive support for his show and Eloise begins arriving late to rehearsals drunk. She ends up breaking her leg while being drunk and now he must find another star.
