Cricket West is an aspiring actress with a great singing voice. She entertains a group of jockeys along with her unconventional aunt. Timmie Donovan is a cocky, but talented, leader of the jockey group. Donovan is approached by a young English man who persuades him to ride his horse in a race. Cricket jumps in the race and succeeds after Donovan is disqualified.

This was Judy Garland's and Mickey Rooney's first film together.
