This 1937 British spy film takes place during the First World War. The two main characters are both secret agents, a male and a female who are both portrayed as enemies in the beginning, but later fall in love. Madeline, first owned a dress shop in Sweden, but later decides to work as an intelligence agent to do more for the country of France.
The main male character, Baron Karl Von Marwitz has been sent to Sweden to discover and get rid of the top British spy who has been hired to smuggle German war plans. The two end up having strong feelings for each other, and Madeleine tries to escape her emotions by running away. Von follows her, boards her boat and claims her as his prisoner of war .
The film ends when a British destroyer ship sinks Von Marwitz's U-Boat in order to rescue Madeleine and her love of her life dies in her arms.
