Greta Garbo was Nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress in a Leading Role.

This American romantic drama is based on the novel and play, La Dame aux Camélias written by Alexandre Dumas, fils.  During the film, the main female character, Marguerite Gautier is originally born in to a lower class family but later becomes a well know Dame Camille who resides in Paris.  The wealthy Baron de Varille takes care of her financially, but she begins to have feelings for another man who is not as financially stable, Armand.  With the advice of Armand's father, he convinces Camille not to fall for Armand.  Towards the end of the film she becomes very ill from tuberculosis and passes away.
