Ruth Vincent, daughter of a state governor and state attorney general Robert Sheldon are about to reveal their marriage, but their plans are interrupted when the governor is suspected of bribe-taking. The couple decides to keep their marriage to themselves, to not complicate matters. Things start showing up and nothing is clear like it used to be.
