The film is set in Paris during the 19th Century, where the crazy Dr. Mirakle kidnaps young women to insert them with ape blood, in order to substantiate apes' relation to humans. He never succeeds in proving his theory, for the women always die. Medical student Pierre Dupin uncovers Mirakle’s motives after his girlfriend Camille is taken by him. He is determined to get her back with the assistance of the authorities.
