Mother Machree is the story of an Irish immigrant and her sacrifices to raise her son. She finds work at a carnival, and uses the money to send her son, Brian, to a good school, but Brian is expelled from the school when they discover Mother Machree's job. Putting her son's wellbeing before her own, she allows the school's principal to adopt Brian so that he can continue getting a good education. Eventually she becomes a housekeeper and nanny to Edith, who grows up to fall in love with Brian McHugh.
Of the seven reels that make up Mother Machree, the Library of Congress only has reels 1, 2 and 5. The others are lost.
Mother Machree was originally to be released in 1926 but was released later in 1928.
