An incompetent trapper, Ed Nolan saves Rin-Tin-Tin from the violence of another trapper. He ends up following Nolan back to his cabin but declines Nolans’s invitation. Nolan decides to take him to the residence of Mary Malloy, a girl he has wanted to make his wife. She will not marry him because of his lifestyle. They discover their connection with Rinty and Nolan decides to finally work. After Mary's little sister gets ill, Mary assumes Rinty had something to do with it since blood was found in his mouth. Nolan goes after him to kill him, but Rinty is too fast for him and escapes. When the little girl starts to feel severely sick, Mary heads for the doctor in a dangerous snow storm. Mary is left alone after her dog-team runs away. The loyal Rinty has been following them throughout the whole time and brings a note to Nolan from Mary. They later discover that the child had been bitten by a wolf.
