Lowell Sherman plays a selfish womanizer named Lennox who tricks a poor country girl named Anna into marrying him. She becomes pregnant and leaves her right after. She has the baby on her own, but the baby ends up dying. After she loses the baby, she finds a job with Squire Bartlett. Lennox appears for he is interested in Kate, as David is interested in Anna. Martha informs Squire Bartlett on Anna’s past and kicks her out.
