Woody Harrelson ACTOR

Woody Harrelson was born on July 23rd, 1961 in Midland, Texas with the birth name Woodrow Tracy Harrelson to parents, Diane Lou and Charles Voyde Harrelson.  He had two brothers and when his parents later divorced, he and his brothers were raised in Lebanon, Ohio.  After high school, he earned his degree in drama and English from Hanover College in Indiana.  His father, Charles Harrelson was later sentenced to two life sentences for murdering a Federal Judge, John Howland Wood and died in a Colorado prison on March 15th, 2007.
His career as an actor first began as a stage actor working in the New York Theatre as an understudy for a production called, “Biloxi Blues”.  It did not take long before he was cast in his break through television role on the series,“Cheers” (1982) for which he was later honored with an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy series.
Along with having a career as a television actor, Harrelson also was able to appear in a number of films such as, “Wildcats” (1986) and the television movie, “Cool Blue” (1990).
The start of his career was quite busy as he never abandoned theater completely so he was trying to work in all three, television, film and continued to hold roles in a number of stage productions such as, “Zoo Story” and “Brooklyn Laundry”.  He even directed his own play in 1999, “Furthest From the Sun” and later in his career in 2005-2006 he starred in, “Night of the Iguana” at the Lyric Theater.
As his career progressed he appeared in a number of highly successful films such as, “Doc Hollywood” (1991), “White Men Can’t Jump” (1992), “Indecent Proposal” (1993) starring Robert Redford and Demi Moore, “Natural Born Killers” (1994), “Kingpin” (1996), “Anger Management” (2003), “After Sunset” and “She Hate Me” (both 2004).
In 2009 he starred it what many say was one of his most amazing performances as Captain Tony Stone in the film, “The Messenger”.  For his performance he received nominations for a Satellite Award, an Independent Spirit Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
He continues to work in the industry today with some of his latest roles being in, “2012” (2009), “Friends with Benefits” (2011), “Rampart” (2011) and soon to release, “The Hunger Games” (2012), “Turkeys” (2012) and “Now You See Me” (2013).  He also recently finished directing a play that he wrote, “A Bullet for Adolf” in Toronto, Ontario back in 2011.

Harrelson had been married only once to Nancy Simon from 1985 through 1986. He then he met his assistant, Laurie Louie and since 2008 the couple have been married.  He currently resides with her and their three children.  Woody remains very involved in the support of marijuana use and legalization.  He is also very vocal about his choice of eating habits.  He only eats raw foods and his wife is the cofounder of an organic food company.  Harrelson also voices his opinions on environmental issues and is a peace activist.  He is a supporter of UNICEF and has done is best lately to remain out of the media spotlight for numerous run-ins with law enforcement.
