WINONA RYDER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Winona Ryder was born on October 29th, 1971 in Winona, Minnesota with the birth name Winona Laura Horowitz. Her mother, Cynthia Palmer was an author and video producer and her father Michael Horowitz was also a working author, editor and publisher.
She grew up on a ranch in Northern California with seven other families with no electricity or television. At the age of ten she began to develop an interest in acting and her family relocated again to Petaluma, California. She soon took up acting classes at the American Conservatory Theater and earned her high school diploma from Petaluma High in 1989 graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
Winona began auditioning for parts and soon the director, David Seltzer took notice of her and chose to cast her in the film, "Lucas" (1986). It did not take long for her to begin to get noticed in Hollywood and soon she was appearing on such films as, "Square Dance" (1987), "Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael" (1990), "Edward Scissorhands" (1990), and "Mermaids" (1990).
Ryder was gaining a fan base quickly and was becoming quite desired in the industry. She followed with roles in such feature films as, "The Age of Innocence" (1993), "The House of Spirits" (1993), "Reality Bites" (1994) and "Little Woman" (1994) for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best actress, "Alien Resurrection" (1997) and "Girl Interrupted" (1999).
Although she was making quite a name for herself in the industry on a professional level, she was also becoming a big focus of the media. Her personal relationship with actor Johnny Depp was the constant focus of tabloids and also the publicized information that she was dealing with anxiety and depression caused her to slow down on taking on so many roles.
She had also graced magazines when word got out about a shoplifting incident that occurred in 2001. The charges came out as grand theft, shoplifting and vandalism from a Saks Fifth Avenue Store in Beverly Hills, California over designer fashion clothing. She was sentenced to three years' probation, 480 hours of community service, $3,700 in fines and $6,355 in restitution to the Saks Fifth Avenue store.
After she took some time to focus on getting her personal life back in order, she returned to working in films appearing on, "Mr. Deeds, "S1mOne" (both 2002),"Strangers With Candy" (2000), "Masters of Horror" (2006), "Star Trek" (2009), "Black Swan" (2010), "The Dilemma" (2011) which was directed by Ron Howard and soon to release, "Frankenweenie" (2012).
