WILLIAM H. MACY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
William H. Macy was born on March 13th, 1950 in Miami, Florida with the birth name William Hall Macy Jr. He was raised in Georgia as well as in Maryland by William Hall Macy Sr. and Lois Macy.
After earning his high school diploma from Allegany High School in Maryland, He enrolled at Bethany College in west Virginia and studied veterinary medicine. He later transferred to Goddard College which was where he first developed an interest in acting.
He began appearing in a number of school productions such as, "The Three Penny Opera" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Once he earned his degree in theater, he relocated to Chicago and worked as a bartender to support himself while trying to further his career as an actor. He soon founded the St. Nicholas Theater company along with his friend and playwright, David Mamet.
Later, he relocated once again, this time to New York City and began working on Broadway appearing in a variety of plays. It was just a matter of time gaining experience as a stage actor that soon opened up the doors for him in the film industry. Some of his more prominent early film roles were in, "House of Games" (1987), "Things Change" (1988), "Homicide" (1991), "Oleanna" (1994), "Wag the Dog" (1997), "State and Main" (2000) and "Spartan" (2004).
In 1996, he earned his first Academy Award for his role in the film, "Fargo". Over the course of his career he has added to Emmy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and nine Emmy nominations as well as bring a three time Golden Globe Award nominee.
As his career has progressed he continues to add successful film roles to his credentials such as, "Above Suspicion" (1995), "Mr. Holland's Opus" (1995) starring Richard Dreyfuss, "Air Force One" (1997) starring Harrison Ford, Glenn Close and Dean Stockwell, "Magnolia" (1999), "Jurassic Park III" (2001), "Seabiscuit" (2003) and "Sahara" (2005).
In addition to his successful film career, he has also appeared on a variety of television series such as, "The Unit", "ER", "Shameless", "Sports Night", "Out of Order" and the narration of, "Curious George".
He also serves as director-in-residence at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York and teaches a class on a technique known as Practical Aesthetics. Most recently, he has been seen on feature films, "Wild Hogs" (2007), "The Maiden Heist" (2009),
William H. Macy has married only once to actress, Felicity Huffman in 1997 and they have two daughters. Both he and his wife have been honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He owns residences in Vermont, New York and Los Angeles.
