WHIP WILSON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Whip Wilson was born on June 16th, 1911 in Granite City, Illinois with the birth name Roland Charles Meyers. He was one of eight children and from a young age he realized he had a talent for singing.
He was given his big break in the industry when a Monogram Pictures studio executive by the name of Scott R. Dunlap took notice of Wilson and offered him a contract although he had no previous film experience.
Whip became a well known cowboy movie star and all sorts of stories were made up about his past trying to make him more desirable to fans. Such stories as he was a rodeo champion and a Marine war hero, all of which were untrue claims.
Monogram Studios wanted him to be the next Buck Jones and they yielded him, Whip Wilson. It was just a mater of time before he would add to his credits 22 B-Western film roles. He was also known for always having his sidekick horse, Bullet in his films.
Wilson was seen on such films as, "Silver Trails" (1948), "Crashing Thru" (1949), "Haunted Trails" (1949), "Riders of the Dusk" (1949) and "Wyoming Roundup" (1952). His final role was in 1955 in the film, "The Kentuckian" where he taught Burt Lancaster how to wield a whip.
Whip Wilson then retired from the industry and made a living as an apartment manager. He married only once to Monica H. Heberlie Meyers in 1938 and they remained together until he passed away on October 23rd, 1964 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from a heart attack. Wilson never had any biological children and his remains were buried in a cemetery in Illinois.
