WALTER COY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Walter Coy was born on July 31st, 1909 in Great Falls, Montana with the middle name Darwin. Coy is most well known for narrating the western series, "Frontier" that aired on NBC between 1955 and 1956.
Some of the fifteen episodes he narrated included, "Cattle Drive to Casper", "In Nebraska", "Tomas and the Widow" and "Paper Gunman" among others.
His career as an actor began as a stage performer and eventually he began appearing on Broadway in the 1930's and remained working as a Broadway actor up until 1948. By the early 1950's he had broken into the film industry and was adding such credits as, "Barricade" (1950) starring Dane Clark, Ruth Roman, Raymond Massey and Robert Douglas, "Colt .45" (1950) starring alongside Randolph Scott, Ruth Roman, Zachary Scott, Alan Hale Sr. and Lloyd Bridges, "Under Mexicali Stars" (1950) starring Rex Allen, Dorothy Patrick and Roy Barcroft and "FBI Girl" (1951) starring Cesar Romero, George Brent, Audrey Totter, Tom Drake, Raymond Burr and Joi Lansing.
Along with early film work he began adding some television credits such as, "China Smith", "Gruen Guild Theater" and "Racket Squad". Over the course of his career in the industry he would mostly focus on work as a television actor with occasional film roles in, "The Lusty Men" (1952) Susan Hayward, Robert Mitchum, Arthur Kennedy, Frank Faylen and Arthur Hunnicutt, "So Big" (1953) starring Jane Wyman, Sterling Hayden, Richard Beymer, Tommy Rettig, Steve Forrest, Martha Hyer, Nancy Olson and Roland Winters, "Sign of the Pagan" (1954) starring with Jeff Chandler, Jack Palance, Leo Gordon, Michael Ansara, Rita Gam, Jeff Morrow and Howard Petrie, "Wichita" (1955) starring Joel McCrea, Vera Miles, Jack Elam, Wallace Ford, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Robert J. Wilke, Edgar Buchanan and Keith Larsen, "The Searchers" (1956) starring alongside John Wayne, Jeffrey Hunter, Natalie Wood, Henry Brandon, Ward Bond, John Qualen, Vera Miles, Ken Curtis, Hank Worden, Pippa Scott, Patrick Wayne and Harry Carey Jr., "Juvenile Jungle" (1958) also starring Corey Allen, Rebecca Welles and Richard Bakalyan, "The Gunfight at Dodge City" (1959) starring Joel McCrea, Julie Adams, John McIntire, Harry Lauter, Nancy Gates, Richard Anderson and James Westerfield and "Five Guns to Tombstone" (1960) starring James Brown, John Wilder and Willis Bouchey.
Coy appeared on over one hundred television series such as, "Bonanza", "Lassie", "The Deputy", "Lock Up", "The Big Valley", "Maverick", "Lawman", "Boston Blackie", "Wagon Train", "Bat Masterson", "Stories of the Century", "The Lone Ranger", "Sheriff of Cochise", "Tales of Wells Fargo", "Bronco", "The Rough Riders", "The Loretta Young Show", "Have Gun - Will Travel", "Rocky Jones, Space Ranger", "The Public Defender", "The Adventures of Jim Bowie", "The Virginian", "The Wild Wild West", "Overland Trail", "Pony Express", "Laramie" and Zane Grey Theatre" among many others.
Most recent roles included his work on the television series, "Daniel Boone" starring Fess Parker, between 1967 and 1970, portraying Chief Blackfish and appearances on the films, "Catlow" (1971) starring Yul Brynner, Richard Crenna and Leonard Nimoy and "Hay que matar a B." (1975).
He married a total of twice throughout his lifetime, first to Anne Burr in 1942 but this marriage soon came to an end and he then wed Ruth E. Harburger in 1969, however another short marriage came to an end in 1971.
Walter Coy did not re-marry, nor did he have any children of his own and on December 11th, 1974 Coy passed away at the age of sixty five, in Santa Maria, California after suffering from congestive heart failure.
