TOM TULLY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Tom Tully was born on August 21st, 1908 in Durango, Colorado, with the birth name Thomas Kane Tulley. He later found work as a pilot and a junior reporter for the Denver Post. It was after he realized how much more money he could make working as an actor, that he switched his career goals.
He gained a large amount of stage and radio experience in his early years which lead to working in the film industry. He first debuted in, "Northern Pursuit" (1943) and in 1954 he received an Oscar nomination for his role in the film, "The Caine Mutiny" starring Humphrey Bogart. Many also remember him for his role on the television series, "The Lineup" (1954).
Other roles he added to his resume were on such films as, "The Uunseen" (1945), "Kiss and Tell" (1945), "The Virginian" (1946), "Lady in the Lake" (1947), "Where the Sidewalk Ends" (1950), "Branded" (1950), "Texas Carnival" (1951), "Sea of Lost Ships" (1953) and "Arrow in the Dust" (1954).
In addition to his many film roles, he also made appearances on such television shows as, "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "Schlitz Playhouse", 'Front Row Center", "Celebrity Playhouse", "Telephone Time", "Tales of Wells Fargo" and "Empire".
In 1969 he took a break from taking on any new film or television roles to entertain troops along with Bob Hope for the USO. During this time, he contracted filarial worm and when he later returned back to the United States his condition became worse and he was diagnosed with a blood clot which caused him to have to have his leg amputated.
However, this did not stop him from continuing to act and he was seen on such television dramas as, "Mission: Impossible" and "The Rookies". His final film role was in 1973 in, "Charley Varrick".
Tom Tully married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Frances McHugh in 1938 and they remained together until she passed away in 1953.
