Ted Bessell ACTOR

Ted Bessell was born on March 20th, 1935 in Queens, New York with the birth name Howard Weston Bessell.  After high school he studied at Georgetown University as well as the University of Colorado and earned his degree in 1958.  He then decided to he wanted to pursue a career as an actor.
He began by studying under Sanford Meisner at the neighborhood Playhouse.  Like most actors, he began as a stage actor appearing in such stage productions as, "The Power of Darkness" and acted and directed a number of other stock productions.
Ted then relocated to Los Angeles, California and appeared in the film, "The Outsider" (1961).  Soon he was working as a soap opera actor appearing on, "Lover Come Back" (1961) and "It's a Man's World" (1962).  Soon such television appearances followed on, "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." (1964) and he got his big break at stardom when he was cast on the television series, "That Girl" (1966) playing, "That Guy".  This role followed with more television appearances on, "Me and the Chimp" (1972), "Good Time Harry" (1980) and "Hail to the Chief" (1985).
Along with being cast on a variety of television roles, Bessell also appeared in such films as, "Don't Drink the Water" (1969) and on the television movie, "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" (1979).
As it became harder for him to get roles as an actor he decided to take a chance at directing and was involved in directing episodes of the television series, "The Tracey Ullman Show" (1987), "Sibs" (1991) and was in the process of directing the movie version of the television series, "Bewitched" (1964) when he passed away too soon before his time.
Throughout his lifetime he married a total of three times.  His first wife was Janeen Darrah from 1963 through 1967.  He then married Donna Gordon but this marriage was short lived.  His third wife was Linnell Mobori whom he had two children with and remained married to her until he passed away on October 6th, 1996 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from a aortic aneurysm.  He is interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica, California.
