It was while at college that she met her only husband, actor, Chris Sarandon whom she wed in 1967.
Sarandon was not an actress and never had any intentions of pursuing a career in the industry, however, when she attended a casting call with her husband for a film called, "Joe" (1970), she ended up being chosen for the film and her husband was not cast.

In 1995, she finally won the best Actress award for her role in the film, "Dead Man Walking". More recently, she has appeared in the films, "Romance & Cigarettes" (2005), "Elizabethtown" 92005), "Enchanted" (2007), "The Lovely Bones" (2007), and "Middle of Nowhere" (2007).
Sarandon has also added a variety of television roles to her resume such as, "Friends", "Malcolm in the Middle", "Saturday Night Live", "30 Rock" and in 2010 she joined the cast of the HBO series, "The Miraculous Year".
She has also narrated a number of documentaries and done voice over work on the television series, "The Simpsons" and the film, "Sonnet 22".
