STELLA STEVENS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Stella Stevens was born on October 1st, 1936 in Yazoo City, Mississippi with the birth name Estelle Carol Eggleston to parents, Dovey Estelle and Thomas Ellett Eggleston as an only child. She got married very young at only fifteen years old and divorced a year later after having a child.
Stella did manage, however, to continue her education and attend college at Memphis State College where she became exposed to acting and modeling. When she was working as a model in a tea rook of Goldsmith's Department Store in Memphis Tennessee, a press agent from United Artists spotted her and said he could help her get into the industry if she came and met him in New York.
The first company to sign her to contract was actually, 20th Century Fox, however after only six months of working with them, she ended her contract and signed with Paramount from 1959-1963.
Her film debut was a small part in, "Say One for Me" (1959) followed by the film that grabbed the industries attention, "Li'l Abner" (1959). Soon after this film, she did a Playboy centerfold spread that became one of the most popular issues as Playmate of the month for January. Stella made two other appearance in Playboy in 1965 and 1968.
Stella managed to work with some of the top names in the industry on films such as, "Too Late Blues" (1961) starring Bobby Darin, "Girl! Girls! Girls!" (1962) with Elvis Presley, "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" (1963) starring Glenn Ford and "The Silencers" (1966) with Dean Martin. She had also switched from Paramount to Columbia Pictures from 1964 to 1968.
Her career never really stopped completely, but roles began to slow down and by the 70's she was mostly getting roles based on her appearance alone. She starred in, "The Ballad of Cable Hogue" (1970) and "Slaughter" (1972) and these film roles were followed with a couple television appearances such as on, "The Love Boat" (1977-1983), "Flamingo Road" a soap opera in which she was a regular and on NBC's daytime drama, "Santa Barbara" (1989-1990).
In 1981, Stella produced and directed a documentary called, "The American Heroine" (1979) followed by "The Ranch" (1989). Even though she is still involved in the industry, she did try to distance her personal life slightly by moving to a small town in Washington and owning an art gallery.
