STACY KEACH BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Stacy Keach was born on June 2nd, 1941 in Savannah, Georgia with the birth name Walter Stacy Keach Jr. His mother was Mary Kain Keach and his father, Walter first worked as a community college drama teacher and later went on to work as the director of the Pasadena Playhouse. After Stacy graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1959, he went on to study drama at the University of California earning two degrees, English and Dramatic Art. He then earned an M.F.A. at the Yale School of Drama as well as the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Coming from a family already involved in show business and then with all of his education, Keach became involved in stage performing. His career began with the New York Shakespeare festival in 1964. He worked on a number of productions such as, "MacBird", "Indians" and "The Nude Paper Sermon". Throughout his career he has won a number of awards such as Obie, Drama Desk and Vernon Rice Awards. He had an amazing run with the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. in the role of, King Lear and will always be acknowledged for his magnificent portrayal.
He began his film career in the later half of the 1960's working on the film, "The Heart is A Lonely Hunter" (1968) followed by a role in, "The New Centurions" (1972). Throughout his career he worked on a number of other films such as, "Doc" (1971), "The Longriders" (1980), "The Ninth Configuration" (1980), "Up in Smoke" (1978) and "Nice Dreams" (1981) amongst many others.
He has also lead a highly successful career as a television actor appearing on such series as, "How to Marry a Millionaire" (1958), "The Blue and the Gray" (1982) and "Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer" which aired on CBS from 1984-1987.
Well into the year 2000, Keach continued to make appearances in films, on television and even still on the stage. Some of his later work includes a role on Fox's sitcom, "Titus" (2000) and he did the voice over work on the series, "The Simpson's" portraying, President Howard K. Duff VIII.
Keach has always enjoyed portraying historical roles on films ranging from Martin Luther, Frank James, Napoleon, Sam Houston and Ernest Hemingway. Keach has also worked as a producer and director on a number of projects such as the Arthur Miller "Incident at Vichy" which aired on PBS.
He has won a number of awards and honors for his stage performances such as receiving a Tony Award nomination for his role on Broadways, "Indians" and a Helen Hayes Award as Best Actor for, "The Rupert Holmes one-man thriller".
It is known by all in the industry that he has so many talents and has made an effort to use them in various areas of entertainment. Keach has been involved in a number of narrating projects such as in a variety of documentaries, books on tape, narrating the Submarine ride at Disneyland and he even recorded a CD of Shakespeare's sonnets.
Stacy Keach married a total of four times and remains happily married today to his current wife, Malgosia Tomassi whom he married in 1986 and has had two children with. Prior to his fourth wife, he married his first wife, Kathryn Baker in 1964 and had no children before ending that marriage and remarrying in 1975 to his second wife, Marilyn Aiken whom he divorced in 1979. His third wife was Jill Donahue in 1981 and they were together until 1986, also never having any children.
In 2009 he suffered a mild stroke but has made a full recovery and now serves as honorary chairman of the Cleft Palate Foundation and advocates to various insurance companies for surgeries. He also serves as the national spokesperson for the World Craniofacial organization and was honored by Hollywood with a Celebrity Outreach Award for his work with a variety of charitable organizations.
Stacy Keach continues to work in the industry and has a number of projects in pre and post production. He continues to share his talents with the public and is highly admired by those in the entertainment world.
