SISSY SPACEK BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Sissy Spacek was born on December 25th, 1949 in Quitman, Texas with the birth name Mary Elizabeth Spacek, born to Virginia Frances and Edwin Arnold Spacek. After graduating from Quitman High School she decided to pursue a career as an actress.

She relocated to New York City and began studying the art at the Actors Studio as well as the Lee Strasberg Institute. She also found part time work as a model and singer to help support herself financially.

It did not take too long for Sissy to begin working in the film industry appearing on such features as, "Prime Cut" (1972), "Badlands" (1973), "Carrie" (1976), "Welcome to LA" (1976), "3 Women" (1977), "Missing" (1982), "The River" (1984), "Crimes of Heart" (1986) and "Coal Miner's Daughter" (1980) co-starring a heretofore unknown actor Tommie Lee Jones, in a role for which she won an Oscar portraying Country Music star Loretta Lynn.

More successful film roles soon followed such as, "Raggedy Man" (1981), "The Man With Two Brains" (1983), "Night Mother" (1986), "JFK" (1991), "Streets of Laredo" (1995) and "In the Bedroom" (2001) a role for which she earned an Academy Award Best Actress nomination as well as Golden Globe for Best Actress.

Along with her film work she has appeared on numerous television series and movies such as, "The Waltons" and "Love, American Style". She has also worked on the television movies, "The Migrants" (1974), "Katherine" (1975), "A Place for Annie" (1994), "Midwives" (2001) and "Pictures of Hollis Woods" (2007).

More recently, Sissy has added more film and television credits to her resume. Roles in the films, "Nine Lives" (2005), "Four Christmases" (2008), "Get Low" (2009) and has had a recurring role on the television series, "Big Love" (2010).

In addition to working as an actress she has also directed the film, "Sweet Tea" and was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2001.

Sissy Spacek has married only once to Jack Fisk in 1974 and they have two children and remain together today and resides on a 300 acre farm in Virginia.
