SIMON OAKLAND BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Simon Oakland was born on August 28th, 1915 in New York City, New York.  He is known as one of the film era's most memorable 'tough guy' characters.  He attended Tilden High School and later Columbia University.  He began getting involved in the entertainment industry as a concert violinist which he did up until the 1940's.  He took a break during World War II to serve four years on active duty in the Philippines.     

When he returned to New York he studied at the American Theater under the GI Bill,
and then found work on the Broadway stage in hits such as, "Light Up the Sky", "The Shrike" and "Inherit the Wind".
 
In 1958 he made his film debut in, "I Want To Live" portraying the tough guy character which followed him for the remainder of his film acting career.  Simon starred in such films as "Follow That Dream" (1962) starring Elvis Presley, "The Sand Pebbles" (1966) with Steve McQueen, "Tony Rome" (1967) starring Frank Sinatra, the Alfred Hitchcock thriller "Psycho" (1960) and "West Side Story" (1961) playing Lieutenant Schrank.  He also appeared on television in the science fiction series, "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" and  was a co-star of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" with a recurring role on, "The Rockford Files" starring James Garner as rival private eye Vern St. Cloud.
 
He remained married to his only wife Lois until he passed away at the early age of 68 after battling years of fighting cancer on August 29th, 1983 in Cathedral City, California.  They had one daughter, Barbra together.
