SID MELTON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Sid Melton was born on May 22nd, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Isidor Meltzer was a Yiddish theater comedian. He became most known in his acting career for portraying Alf Monroe, a carpenter on the CBS television sitcom, "Green Acres" (1965-1969) as well as his role as Uncle Charlie Halper on the television series, "Make Room for Daddy" (1970-1971).
Melton was born with the birth name, Sidney Meltzer and due to his father's involvement in the arena of entertainment, Sid Melton soon followed in his fathers footsteps along with his brother, Lewis Meltzer who pursued a career as a screenwriter.
Sid began acting in the late 1930's appearing on stage with his debut in, "See My Lawyer" (1939) and then he began touring performing in a number of Broadway productions such as, "See My Lawyer", "The Magic Touch" and "Three Men on a Horse".
By the early 40's he was appearing in a number of small roles on such films as, "New York Town" (1941), "Blondie Goes to College" (1942), "Cairo" (1942) and "Mug Town" (1942).
As his career progressed and he began to receive more prominent film roles such as, "Sleeper" (1951), "Lost Continent" (1951), "Radar Secret Service" (1950), "Thundering Jets" (1958), "Lone Texan" (1959), "Why Must I Die?" (1960), "It Takes All Kinds" (1969), "Lady Sings the Blues" (1972), "Hit!" (1973) and "Sixpack Annie" (1975).
Along with film roles he has added numerous television credits to his resume such as, "Captain Midnight" (1954-1956) starring Richard Webb, "It's Always Jan", "Golden Girls", "Dragnet" starring Jack Webb, "I Dream of Jeanie" starring Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman, "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." starring Jim Nabors, "Hunter", "Rags to Riches", "Major Dad", "Love, American Style", "Mod Squad" and "The Doris Day Show" among many others.
In the 90's he mostly focused on television with some of his latest roles on the series, "Nurses" (1992-1994), "Blossom" (1994-1995), "Empty nest" (1993-1995), "Brotherly Love" (1996), "Dave's World" (1997) and his final role was in 1999 in the film, "…And Call Me in the Morning".
Sid Melton passed away on November 3rd, 2011 in Burbank, California after suffering from pneumonia. His remains are interred at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, California.
