SHARON GLESS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Sharon Gless was born on May 31st, 1943 in Los Angeles, California with the birth name Sharon Marguerite Gless to parents Marjorie McCarthy and Dennis J. Gless. She grew up very aware of her surroundings in Hollywood as her grandfather was one of the most respected entertainment lawyers in Hollywood. She was very interested un pursuing a career as an actress from a very young age but originally her grandfather was adamant she stay out of the industry, however later he changed his mind and helped pay for her to attend acting classes.
She first became involved in the industry working as a secretary for the an advertising agency and then worked for an independent movie production company. In 1974 she decided to really pursue acting and was signed to a ten year contract with Universal Studios.
Her career began with a number of television appearances on such series and movies as, "Revenge of the Stepford Wives", "Faraday & Company", "Emergency!", "Marcus Welby, M.D", "Switch" and the sitcom, "Turnabout" in 1979.
As her career progressed, Gless continued to work in television such as in the role of police detective, Christine Cagney on, "Cagney & Lacey" (1991). For this role she received five Emmy nominations and won two Golden Globe Awards. Soon this role lead to "Cagney & Lacey" television movies.
Gless proceeded to work in the industry taking on new challenges such as narrating a documentary called, "Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life" in 1998 which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature.
Other roles included an appearance on an episode of, "Touched By an Angel" (2000), "The State Within" (2006), "Burn Notice" (2007) and a guest appearance on, "Nip/Tuck" (2008-2009). Her latest role was in the stage adaptation of, "A Round-Heeled Woman" (2010) set to come to London in 2011.
She has received a number of honors throughout her career such as being the recipient of The Theatre School at DePaul University's prestigious Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2007. Sharon Gless is also very involved in supporting Woman's rights. She joined hundreds of thousands of women in Washington DC for the first-ever "March For Women's Lives." Sharon is currently involved with a hit TV show on cable titled "Burn Notice".
Sharon married only once to Barney Rosenzweig in 1991 and they remain married today and live in three different cities, Los Angeles, Miami and Toronto.
