SEAN CONNERY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Sean Connery was born on August 25th, 1930 in Edinburgh, Scotland with the birth name Thomas Sean Connery.  His mother, Euphamia worked as a cleaning lady and his father, Joseph was employed as a factory worker and truck driver. 
 
He grew up in a middle class family and dropped out of school early to work a variety of jobs to help support himself such as, a milkman, a laborer, coffin polisher and even trained as a body builder where he placed third in 1950 for the Mr. universe title.  He was quite athletic and enjoyed playing football.  At the age of sixteen he briefly joined the Royal Navy for three years, but he was discharged after suffering a long bout with a stomach ulcer.
 
He decided in his mid twenty's that he had an interest in acting and wanted to pursue an acting career.  He began finding work as a model and worked a number of small theatrical stage parts.  It took him almost eight years before he finally began booking television and film roles and building a name for himself in the industry.
 
Some of his early work were appearances on such television movies as, "Anna Christie" (1957), "Macbeth" (1961), "Anna Karenina" (1961), plus "Hell Drivers" (1957) starring with Stanley Baker, Herbert Lom, Peggy Cummins, Patrick McGoohan, David McCallum and Jill Ireland, the Walt Disney feature film "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" (1959) and the epic black and white World War II film "The Longest Day" (1962) featuring an all star ensemble cast including John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Eddie Albert, Curt Jurgens, Richard Burton, Rod Steiger, Peter Lawford, Edmond O'Brien, Kenneth More, Robert Wagner, Red Buttons, Richard Todd, Steve Forrest, Ray Danton, Jeffrey Hunter, Roddy McDowall, Sal Mineo, Stuart Whitman and Irina Demick.  His big break through role was in 1962 when he was cast as Secret Agent 007 James Bond in "Dr. No" that also starred Ursula Andress and Jack Lord, which followed by portraying the same character in six more James Bond films, "From Russia with Love" (1963) co-starring Daniela Bianchi, Robert Shaw, Lotte Lenya and Pedro Armendariz, "Goldfinger" (1964) also stars Honor Blackman as Bond girl Pussy Galore and Gert Frobe as the title character Auric Goldfinger, along with Shirley Eaton as famous Bond girl Jill Masterson, "Thunderball" (1965) with Claudine Auger, Adolfo Celi, Luciana Paluzzi, Rik Van Nutter, Desmond Llewelyn, Martine Beswick and Bernard Lee, "You Only Live Twice" (1967) Donald Pleasence, Mie Hama, Akiko Wakabayashi and Lois Maxwell, "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971) co-starring Jill St. John, Lana Wood, Bernard Lee, Charles Gray and Bruce Cabot and "Never Say Never Again" (1983) starring with Kim Basinger, Bernie Casey, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Barbara Carrera, Rowan Atkinson and Max von Sydow.   

Along with filming a number of television movies and making all the James Bond Films he also starred in a number of other big screen films such as Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller, "Marnie" (1964) co-starring Tippi Hedren, Diane Baker, Martin Gabel, Bruce Dern and Mariette Hartley, "The Hill" (1965) starring alongside Harry Andrews, Ian Bannen, Ossie Davis, Ian Hendry, Alfred Lynch, Roy Kinnear and Michael Redgrave, John Ford's "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975) also starring Michael Caine, Saeed Jaffrey and Christopher Plummer, "The Untouchables" (1987) starring alongside Kevin Costner, Andy Garcia, Charles Martin Smith and Robert De Niro, "The Presidio" (1988) starring with Mark Harmon, Meg Ryan and Jack Warden, "The Hunt for Red October" (1990) co-starring Alec Baldwin, James Earl Jones, Scott Glenn, Sam Neill and Fred Thompson, "Rising Sun" (1993) with Wesley Snipes, Harvey Keitel and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, "Finding Forrester" (2000) featuring Rob Brown, Anna Paquin, F. Murray Abraham, Michael Pitt, April Grace, Naturi Naughton and Busta Rhymes and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" (2003) also starring Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng and Richard Roxburgh. 
 
Connery also has his own production company called, Fountainbridge Films which is named after an area in Edinburgh where he was born. 
 
Sean Connery was mostly known for portraying characters that were tough and his deep voice only helped him make his characters more believable.  He has been honored throughout his acting career in a number of ways.  Connery was ranked #14 in Empire Magazine's, "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" in 1997 and in 1989 People Magazine voted him "The Sexiest Man Alive".
 
He is also known for his many charitable contributions such as donating his salary from the film, "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (1991) in a cameo role as King Richardwith Kevin Costner as Robin Hood, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Maid Marian of Dubois, Morgan Freeman as Azeem, Christian Slater as Will Scarlet, and Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham, and he was awarded Knighthood of the British Empire in the 2000 Queen's Millenium Honors List for his service to Film Drama.   
 
Sean Connery married twice, first to Diane Cilento on December 6th, 1962 and they had one child, Jason Connery before divorcing in 1973.  His second marriage was to Micheline Roquebrune whom he married in 1975 and remains with today.  His son is also an actor and has made appearances on, "The Secret Life of Ian Fleming" (1990), a television movie as well as portraying the character Robin Hood on the television series, "Robin Hood" (1984).
 
In 2006, Sean Connery announced his retirement from the industry during an interview in New York City, however he has returned to film, "Sir Billi" currently in production.
