SAM ELLIOTT BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Sam Elliott was born on August 9th, 1944 in Sacramento, California with the middle name Pack. As a teenager, his family relocated to Oregon. After graduating from David Douglas High School in Portland he enrolled at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington where he first developed in interest in stage acting. He soon decided to relocate to Hollywood in pursuit of a fulltime career as an actor.
He found work in construction while studying acting in Los Angeles and soon his career in acting began as a stage actor. After gaining some experience he then moved in to working on films. His film debut was in 1969 in, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katharine Ross.
Soon other film roles followed such as, "Fatal Beauty" (1987), "Prancer" (1989), "Road House" (1989) starring Patrick Swayze, Red West and Ben Gazzara, "Gettysburg" (1993), "Tombstone" (1993) co-starring Kurt Russell, "The Final Cut" (1996), "The Big Lebowski" (1998), "Thank You For Smoking" (2005), "Ghost Rider" (2007), "Up in the Air" (2009) and "The Big Bang" (2011).
Along with working as a film actor he made a real name for himself in television. Some of his television credits include the television movies, "The Shadow Riders" (1982), "The Yellow Rose" (1983) ad "Buffalo Girls" (1995).
He has also starred in a number of television series such as, "Mission: Impossible" (1970-1971), "Once an Eagle" (1976-1977), "The Sacketts" (1979) co-starring Tom Selleck, Glenn Ford, Ben Johnson and Slim Pickens, "Murder in Texas" (1981), "Felony Squad" (1968-1969), "Gunsmoke" (1972), "Lancer" (1969-1970), "The Mod Squad", "Hawaii Five-O" (1974) and "A Death in California" (1985).
Elliot has also done voice over work for such commercials as, IBM, Dodge Ram trucks, Union Pacific, American Beef Council, Coors Beer and he does the voice for Smokey Bear. He is also heard on the films, "Marmaduke" (2010) and "Barnyard" (2006).
In addition to acting he worked on the other side of the industry as a screen writer for the television movie, "Conagher" (1991) co-starring Katharine Ross, Dub Taylor, Buck Taylor and Ken Curtis and as a producer on the television movies, "Houston: The Legend of Texas" (1986) and "You Know My Name" (1999).
Sam Elliot is currently married to his only wife, actress Katharine Ross whom he wed in 1984 and they have one child together. Most recently he has been seen in the television movie, "November Christmas" (2010) and soon to release, "The Company You Keep" (2012).
