SALMA HAYEK BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
 
Salma Hayek was born on September 2nd, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico with the birth name Salma Valgarma Hayek-Jimenez.  She first became interested in acting when she attended the movie, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" in 1971 and realized how much she too wanted to pursue a career as an actress.  She went to study acting at Mexico City's Universidad Iberoamericana and then decided to audition for a television acting role in Mexico.
 
Her first role to gain her popularity in her own country was on the soap opera, "Teresa" (1989).  Soon she decided to really wanted to pursue a career as a film actress and relocated to Los Angeles, California in pursuit of her dream.  At the age of twenty four she was living in Los Angeles, and only earning small bit parts mostly portraying maids or prostitutes. 
 
By 1995 she finally got her first big break in the film, "Desperado" starring Antonio Banderas, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Joaquim de Almeida and Steve Buscemi and finally Hollywood began to take notice of her.  Soon more decent film roles followed such as, "From Dusk Till Dawn" (1996) starring Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino and Juliette Lewis, "Fools Rush In" (1997) co-starring Matthew Perry, Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Jill Clayburgh, "Breaking Up" (1997) with Russell Crowe, "Dogma" (1999) starring alongside Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino, Alan Rickman, Bud Cort, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, George Carlin, Janeane Garofalo, Alanis Morissette and Jason Mewes and the television movie, "In the Time of the Butterflies" (2001) opposite Edward James Olmos, for which she won an ALMA award as best actress.
 
Along with her acting resume she also started a production company called, Ventanarosa and produced the film, "No One Writes to the Colonel" (1999). Her next successful film role that she not only starred in but also co produced was called, "Frida" (2002) with other successful actors such as, Antonio Banderas, Ashley Judd and Valeria Golino.  The film was nominated for six Oscars.
 
She was well on her way to stardom in Hollywood and continued her success directing her next film, "The Maldonado Miracle" (2003) which was a television movie and was shown at the Sundance Film Festival. 
 
More successful films followed such as, "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" (2003) co-starring Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe, Enrique Iglesias, Mickey Rourke, Eva Mendes and Ruben Blades, "After the Sunset" (2004) also starring Pierce Brosnan, Don Chaedle and Woody Harrleson, "Ask the Dust" (2006) starring with Colin Farrell, Idina Menzel and Donald Sutherland and "Bandidas" (2006) co-starring Penelope Cruz, Sam Shepard, Dwight Yoakam and Steve Zahn.  Not only was she gaining success as an actress and director, but she was also chosen as the spokesperson for Avon.
 
She has married only once to Francois-Henri Pinault in 2009 and they have one child and remain together today.  She is also involved in a number of charitable causes such as increasing the awareness on violence against women and discrimination against immigrants.  She donated, $25,000 to a shelter for battered women in Mexico and another $50,000 was donated to Monterrey which is a anti-domestic group that fights violence.  She also teamed up with UNICEF and Pampers to assist in stopping the spread of life-threatening maternal and neonatal tetanus.
