Roy Scheider ACTOR


Roy Scheider was born on November 10th, 1932 in Orange, New Jersey with the birth name Roy Richard Scheider.  As a young boy he was very athletic and played basketball and competed as a boxer.
After completing his high school education at Columbia High in Maplewood, New Jersey, he went on to college and continued to remain active in sports, however, it was at this time too, that he began to develop an interest in the performing arts.
He went on to study theater at Rutgers as well as Franklin and Marshal.  He took a brief break from pursuing a career as an actor to join the military but once he completed his service, Scheider then decided to try out acting.  He began as a stage actor and it did not take long for him to won an Obie Award for his role in a production of, "Stephen D".  
By the mid 1960's, he was also appearing in a number of films such as, "The Curse of the Living Corpse" (1964), "Star!" (1968), "Paper Lion" (1968), "Stiletto" (1969), "Puzzle of a Downfall Child" (1970), "Klute" (1971) and "The French Connection" (1971).
After he appeared in the film, "The Seven-Ups" (1973), he was cast in his most well known role, "Jaws" (1975) playing the character, police chief Brody followed by another highly successful film, the sequel, "Jaws 2" (1978).
Other film roles he added to his resume were, "Marathon Man" (1976), "The Wages of Fear" (1953), "Sorcerer" (1977), "All That Jazz" (1979), "Blue Thunder" (1983), "2010" (1984), "52 Pick-Up" (1986), "Cohen and Tate" (1988) and "The Russia House" (1990).
Along with working as a film actor, Scheider also appeared on a number of television series such as, "Where the Heart Is" (1969), "SeaQuest 2032" (1993), "The Diamond Hunters" (2001), "Third Watch" (2002) and "Law and Order" (2007).
Throughout his lifetime, Scheider married twice.  His first wife was Cynthia Scheider whom he wed in 1962 and together they had one daughter, Maximillia before the marriage came to an end in 1989.  He then married Brenda King in 1989 and they had two children, Christian and Molly and remained married until he passed away on February 10th, 2008 in Little Rock, Arkansas after suffering from multiple myeloma which is a cancer that affects the plasma cells.  In 2007, just one year prior to his death he received a Lifetime Achievement award.
