RON HOWARD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Ron Howard was born on March 1st, 1954 in Duncan, Oklahoma with the birth name Ronald William Howard.  His parents were actor/director, Rance Howard and his mother was Jean Speegle Howard, also a working actress.  He was born into a family already involved in show business and by the age of eighteen months his parents had already exposed him to the industry putting him in his first film, "Frontier Woman" (1956).

In 1958, his family relocated to Hollywood, California and by the age of four he got a regular part on, "Playhouse 90" (1956) and just a couple years later in 1960 he was cast as the character Opie on, "The Andy Griffith Show".

He had already established quite a decent resume as a child actor, he added to his resume with appearances in, "The Eleventh Hour" (1963), "Spy" (1966) and "M.A.S.H." (1973).  His big break and what he is most well known for was when he was cast as Richie Cunningham in the television series, "Happy Days" (1974) which ran for six years.

Even though he had been a child actor from such a young age, his parents tried to still give him as normal a childhood as possible.  They sent him to public school and let him get involved in school sports.  He graduated from High School at John Burroughs High and later on even attended the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, but did not graduate.

He continued to work on the "Happy Days" series and was also cast in a number of films such as, "The Music Man" (1962), "Huckleberry Finn" (1975), "The Shootist" (1976) starring John Wayne and Lauren Bacall for which he was honored with a Golden Globe nomination and he worked on the film, "Eat My Dust" (1976) which he directed as well.  His last on screen appearances were when he brought back the role of Opie Taylor in the television film, "Return to Mayberry" (1986) and two Happy Days reunion specials in 1992 and again in 2005.

Enjoying the life of a director he directed a number of films such as two films that were on the American Institutes 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Times, "Beautiful Mind" (2001) and "Apollo 13" (1995).  He also directed a number of Oscar winning films such as, "Cocoon", "Apollo 13", "Frost/Nixon" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". He was also responsible for starting two production companies, Major H Productions and Imagine Films Entertainment.

Ron Howard married only one time to Cheryl Howard, his high school sweetheart, on June 7th, 1975 and they remain together today with four children.  All four children were given names based on where they were conceived, Bryn, Jocelyn, Paige and Reed.  He lives with his family on a 35-acre estate in a gated community on Greenwich, Connecticut.

In 2003 he was a recipient of a USA National Medal of Arts and was ranked #7 in VH1's, "100 Greatest Kid Stars".  He was also awarded the Austin Film Festival's 2009 Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award.

In 2009, Howard made a cameo appearance in Jaimie Foxx's music video, "Blame It" and he continues even today to stay involved in the industry but also focuses much of his time on his family.
