ROD TAYLOR BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Rod Taylor was born on January 11th, 1930 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia with the birth name Rodney Sturt Taylor. Rod was the only child born to parents were William Sturt Taylor and Mona Stewart. Taylor attended Parramatta High School and later studied at East Sydney Technical and Fine Arts College. The start of his career was working on an Australian children's radio show in the early 1950's, he then moved to the United States in search of an acting career after being awarded the 1954 The Rola Show Australian radio actor of the year award, which included a ticket to London via Los Angeles.
He began with getting cast in a number of supporting roles on some films before getting some lead parts. MGM Studio was impressed with him and therefore signed him to a contract. His first American experience on screen was in a small part in the film, "A Catered Affair" (1956) followed by roles in, "Giant" (1956) starring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean and "Separate Tables" (1958).
His most well known role was in, "The Time Machine" (1960) playing George the inventor. He followed this role with a number of other screen appearances in such films as, "The Birds" (1963), "Sunday in New York" (1963), "The Glass Bottom Boat" (1966), "Bearcats" (1971), "The Train Robbers" (1973) starring John Wayne and Ann-Margret and "Masquerade" (1983).
He was also involved working as a television actor in such series as, "Hong Kong" (1960-1961) , "Bus Stop" (1961) and later on in his career multiple episodes of, "Murder, She Wrote" and "Walker, Texas Ranger".
As his career progressed the majority of films he was cast in were 'B' rated films and a variety of mostly western films. Even though he was able to remain employed throughout his career, he never quite reached the level of stardom he was searching. It is said his last decent role was in an Australian film called, "The Picture Show Man" (1977)
Taylor has married three times, first to Peggy Williams from 1951 through 1954. His second marriage was to Mary Beth Hilem from 1963 through 1969 and together they had one child. His third and final marriage was to Carol Kikumura from October 15th, 1980 through present day.
For the most part, he has retired from the industry, but he did make a return back to the big screen playing the role of the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill in, "Inglourious Basterds" (2009). He is in current negotiations to possibly play Mikhail Gorachev in the biography, "Thatcher".
