REX INGRAM BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Rex Ingram was born on October 20th, 1895 in Cairo, Illinois born to Mack and Mamie Ingram. After high school he enrolled at Northwestern University and graduated with a degree in medicine.
However, instead of staying in the medical field, Ingram had a change of heart and chose to pursue a career as an actor. In 1918, he made his film debut in, "Tarzan of the Apes" starring Elmo Lincoln, Enid Markey, George B. French and Eugene Pallette, Colin Kenny, True Boardman, Kathleen Kirkham and Gordon Griffith and over the next fifty years he would remain involved in the industry as a film and television actor. Rex Ingram received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture Industry.
Some of his more well known film appearances included, "The Green Pastures" (1936) co-starring Oscar Polk, Al Stokes, Edna Mae Harris, Frank Wilson and Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (1939) starring Mickey Rooney, Walter Connolly, William Frawley, Minor Watson, Elisabeth Risdon, Lynne Carver, Jo Ann Sayers and Victor Kilian, "The Thief of Bagdad" (1940) Sabu Dastigar, also Conrad Veidt, John Justin, Morton Selten, Miles Malleson, Mary Morris and June Duprez, "The Talk of the Town" (1942) starring Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, Ronald Colman, Edgar Buchanan, Emma Dunn, Tom Tyler, Charles Dingle, Don Beddoe, Leonid Kinskey and Glenda Farrell, "Sahara" (1943) starring alongside Humphrey Bogart, Bruce Bennett, J. Carrol Naish, Richard Nugent, Lloyd Bridges, Kurt Kreuger, John Wengraf and Dan Duryea, "Cabin in the Sky" (1943) also starring Ethel Waters, Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson, Kenneth Lee Spencer, Lena Horne, Todd Duncan, Katherine Dunham, Dooley Wilson, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, "Hurry Sundown" (1967) starring Jane Fonda and Michael Caine, John Phillip Law, Diahann Carroll, Faye Dunaway, Robert Hooks, Burgess Meredith, Beah Richards, Luke Askew, George Kennedy, Robert Reed, Madeleine Sherwood, Frank Converse, Jim Backus and his final film role in 1968 on, "Journey to Shiloh" starring with James Caan, Michael Sarrazin, Harrison Ford, Brenda Scott, Albert Popwell, Jan-Michael Vincent and Robert Pine.
Along with his film work he also worked as a stage actor and appeared on Broadway numerous times. Towards the later part of his career he made occasional television appearances on such series as, "Climax!", "Ramar of the Jungle", "The Law & Mr. Jones", "Black Saddle", "Sam Benedict", "The Rifleman", "The Brighter Day", "I Spy", "Branded", "Daktari", "Gunsmoke" and his final television appearance was on, "The Bill Cosby Show" in 1969.
Rex Ingram married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Francine Everett from 1936 through 1939. He then married a lady by the name of Dena and they remained together until he passed away on September 19th, 1969 in Hollywood, California after suffering from a heart attack. His remains are interred in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
