REX HARRISON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Rex Harrison was born on March 5th, 1908 in Huyton, Lancashire, England, UK which is now known as Huyton, Knowsley, Merseyside, England, UK with the birth name Reginald Carey Harrison. As a young boy, he changed his name to Rex.
At the age of eighteen he began a career as a stage actor, with his first job at the Liverpool Rep Theater. This followed with his break through role in the play, "French Without Tears". It was this role that got him known as, "the greatest actor of light comedy in the world" and also the nick name that soon followed, Sexy Rexy due to his way with women.
In 1946 he worked on his first American film, "Anna and the King of Siam" and when he took on the defining role in, "My Fair Lady" (1964) he won a Tony Award for the play and an Oscar for the film version. He retired from the film industry after making the film, "The Fifth Musketeer" (1979) but he did continue to work on stage which was his first love of the acting industry.
His final stage performance was as Lord Porteous in, "The Circle" and just three weeks later he passed away from pancreatic cancer on June 2nd, 1990 in New York City, New York. He was cremated and part of his ashes were scattered in Italy and the other part on the grave of his second wife, Lilli Palmer.
As it was known for his way with women, he was accused of having many affairs and therefore, holding together a marriage was not his forte. He married a total of six times throughout his lifetime. First to, Noel Marjorie Collette Thomas from 1933 through 1942 having one child together. His second marriage was to Lilli Palmer from 1943 through 1957 and again having another child. Marriage number three was to, Kay Kendall from 1957 through 1959 when she passed away. This took a toll on him emotionally, but he continued with his career and his fourth marriage in 1962 to Rachel Roberts whom he remained with until 1971. Marriage number five was to Elizabeth Rees from August 1971 through 1975. Again, this marriage did not last either and he finally married again for a fifth time to Merica Tinker from 1978 through 1990 when he passed away.
