Pinky Lee ACTOR

Pinky Lee was born on May 2nd, 1907 in St. Paul Minnesota with the birth name Pincus Leff.  He began his career in entertainment industry working as comic of the, 'baggy pants' as a stage actor.  He became an expert in performing slapstick comedy.  He was also involved in working on the radio.
Pinky had a lisp which became his trademark and his costume was easily recognizable with his loud plaid suit and baggy checkered pants.  He was disliked by many others in the industry as they felt he was too over the top.
He also appeared on television in the 1950's having his own thirty minute primetime variety show on NBC called, "The Pinky Lee Show".  Along with doing the comedy himself he also incorporated vaudeville and burlesque comics.  During 1951 through 1952 he could also be seen in a fifteen minute sitcom called, "Those Two" with his co star Vivian Blaine.  His show was actually plagued by many parental complains as they felt he caused children to misbehave, therefore, NBC had to tone down the show by limiting certain things as destruction of property, bad grammar and name calling.
His show returned to television in 1954 and was nominated for an Emmy.  Other children's imitating shows soon appeared such as, "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" and "Howdy Doody Show".  In 1957, he hosted, "The Gumby Show" and returned back to doing television for children in 1964 by hosting a local children's comedy program that aired on KABC TV in Los Angeles, California.  Pinky also appeared on the Ed Sullivan's show, "Toast of the Town".
Already quite popular just as a television actor, he could also be seen in a number of films such as, "Lady Of Burlesque" (1943), "Earl Carroll's Vanities" (1945) and "Blonde Ransom" (1945).
When he retired from acting, Pinky worked as a teacher and also did some regional musical theater productions.  He passed away on April 3rd, 1993 in Mission Viejo, California from a heart attack.  He married only once to Bebe Dancis and they had two children together, Patty and Morgan.  He is buried at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
