Peter Cushing ACTOR

Peter Cushing was born on May 26th, 1913 in Kenley, Surrey in England with the birth name Peter Wilton Cushing to parents Nellie Marie and George Edward.  As a child he developed an interest in acting since he was exposed to the industry from his aunt who was a working actress.
While in school he became involved in acting taking classes and also performing in school productions.  After school he did a couple local theater stage productions and then relocated to London to attend the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he received a scholarship to study.
After a couple years of working in repertory theater he decided to relocate to Hollywood and see if he could break into the film industry.  His film debut was in, "The Man in the Iron Mask" (1939).  He was soon being cast in a number of other films in Hollywood such as, "A Chump at Oxford" (1940), "Vigil in the Night" (1940) and "They Dare Not Love" (1941).
Cushing returned back to England and worked as a stage actor for while and also during World War II he chose to join the Entertainment National Services Association.  When the war came to an end, Cushing remained in England working on stage productions such as, "Hamlet" (1948), "Moulin Rouge" (1952) and on British television.
He remained in England appearing on such films as, "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957), "Horror of Dracula" (1958) and "The Hound of the Baskervilles" (1959) playing the characters of Dr. Frankenstein, Van Helsing and Sherlock Holmes.  As his career progressed for the next twenty years he continued to play these roles plus other horror character roles in a number of Hammer Films.
Some of his later roles were on, "Star Wars: Episode IV-A New Hope" (1977), occasional television appearances and his last film role, "Biggles: Adventures in Time" (1986) and he then retired completely.
Peter Cushing married once to Violet Helene Beck in 1943 and they were married until she passed away on January 14th, 1973.  He never had any children and never remarried again.  On August 11th, 1994, Cushing passed away in Canterbury, Kent, England after suffering from prostate cancer.
