PAUL SORVINO BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Paul Sorvino was born on April 13th, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. Originally, he intended pursuing a career as a professional opera singer, however while studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York he developed an interest in acting. He later went on to perfect his craft studying with Sanford Meisner.
In 1970 he appeared in his first film, "Going Ape" and soon he followed this with a number of other film, television and stage roles. Some of his more well known film roles include, "The Gambler" (1974) co-starring James Caan and Lauren Hutton, "Cruising" (1980) starring Al Pacino, "That Championship Season" (1981) co-starring Robert Mitchum, Martin Sheen, Bruce Dern and Stacy Keach, "I, the Jury" (1982) starring Armand Assante, Barbara Carrera and Laurene Landon, "Goodfellas" (1990) starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci, "The Firm" (1993) starring Tom Cruise, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Holly Hunter, Hal Holbrook, Wilford Brimley, Gary Busey and David Strathairn, "Nixon" (1995) starring alongside Anthony Hopkins, Bob Hoskins, Joan Allen, Annabeth Gish, Powers Boothe, J.T. Walsh, E.G. Marshall, James Woods, Larry Hagman, David Hyde-Pierce and Ed Harris, "Romeo + Juliet" (1996) starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brian Dennehy and Claire Danes and "The Cooler" (2003) starring William H. Macy, Alec Baldwin and Maria Bello.
Along with film work he has also appeared on such television series as, "That's Life", "Still Standing", "Jack & Bobby", "Law & Order", "Murder, She Wrote", "Moonlighting", "Insight" and "Great Performances".
In addition to his career as an actor he is also a published author with a book titled, "How to Become a Former Asthmatic". He wrote this from his own personal experiences he dealt with suffering from asthma and also started the Sorvino Asthma Foundation which is based in New York City and raises money to build centers for children and adults throughout the United States that suffer from the disease.
He has married twice, first to Lorraine Davis and they had three children before the marriage came to an end in 1988. He then married Vanessa Arico in 1991 however by 1996, this marriage also ended in divorce. His one daughter, Mira Sorvino is also a working actress and won an Academy Award for her work in the industry and his other two children, Amanda and Michael also work in the industry.
He has not re-married but remains working as an actor adding to his credits most recently roles in the films, "Immigrant" (2012), "A Winter Rose" (2012), "How Sweet It IS" (2012), "Raging Bull II" (2013) and "Last I Heard" (2013).
