Patty Duke ACTOR

Patty Duke as born on December 14th, 1946 in Elmhurst, New York with the birth name Anna Marie Duke born to parents Frances and John Patrick.  Her father was an alcoholic and left her family when she was very young.  Her brother, Ray Duke was an actor and she also had a sister Carol Duke.  When Ray introduced his sister to his managers, John and Ethel Ross they took her on as a client and changed her name from Anna to Patty.
She began working in the industry as a commercial actress and soon found her way to occasional small parts on television shows and films.  Her big break came when she was cast in, "The Miracle Worker" a stage play which lasted for two years before the play was made into a film and Patty was cast in the film.  For this role she won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress when she was only sixteen years old which made her the youngest person to ever win an Oscar.
This role opened a number of doors for her and soon she had her own television sitcom called, "The Patty Duke Show" (1963) which lasted a total of three seasons and she earned an Emmy nomination.
Patty had proven herself to be quite a talented actress and no role was too challenging for her.  Next she was cast in the film, "Billie" (1965) which was another successful career move for her and this movie was the first to be sold to a television network
Some of her other film roles to follow were on, "Valley of the Dolls" (1967) and "Me, Natalie" (1969), which won her a Golden Globe Award.  Along with being successful on film and on television roles kept coming her way working on such series as, "Captains and the Kings" (1976) "Family Upside Down" (1978 and "Having Babies III" (1978) all for which she won an Emmy Award for, "Captain of the Kings" and two Emmy nominations for the later two.
She remained very involved in the industry and even served as President of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) in 1984.  In 1987, she wrote an autobiography titled, "Call Me Anna" which later in 1990 was made into a television movie.  She also wrote another book titled, A Brilliant madness: Living with Manic-Depressive Illness".  She proved herself to be a highly successful actress and author and also was very involved in politics for such issues as (ERA) Equal Rights Amendment.
Patty Duke married a total of four times, first to Harry Falk whom she married in 1965 and remained together until 1970.  Her second marriage was to Michael Tell from June 26th, 1970 and annulled July 9th, 1970.  Her third time to marry was to, John Astin in 1972 and they stayed together until 1985 and had two children, actors Sean and Mackenzie Astin.  She is currently married to her fourth husband, Michael Pearce whom she wed in 1986 and they live together with one son, Kevin.
