PAT HINGLE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Pat Hingle was born on July 19th, 1924 in Miami, Florida with the birth name Martin Patterson Hingle. His parents divorced when he was still a baby and he never knew his father as he passed away when Hingle was still very young. He was raised by his mother who first worked as a teacher and later began to travel with him to find better job opportunities.
Hingle lived in over thirteen cities throughout his childhood finally graduating from high school in Texas and then enrolling at the University of Texas where he majored in advertising, but dropped out to join the military. He later returned to college and finished earning a degree in Radio Broadcasting.
Pat joined the United States Navy and served during World War II. Upon completing his military service, he then relocated to New York City and found work as a stage actor. He also studied acting with the Actors Studio and at the Herbert Berghof Studios.
Some of his early film roles were in the Academy Award winner for Best Picture, "On the Waterfront" (1954) and "Splendor in the Grass" (1961) starring Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood. He appeared in a stage production of, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and in 1958 he was nominated for a Tony Award for his role on Broadway's, "The Dark at the Top of the Stairs".
As his career progressed he added such credits to his resume as the television series, "Justice", "Gunsmoke', "The Twilight Zone" and "Stone". He also appeared in such films as, "Hang 'Em High" (1968) starring Clint Eastwood, "When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder?" (1979), "Sudden Impact" (1983), "Brewster Millions" (1985) starring Richard Pryor, "Maximum Overdrive" (1986), "The Grifters" (1990) and "Road to Redemption" (2001).
He is most well known for his role in all four, "Batman" films, "Batman & Robin", "Batman", "Batman Forever" and "Batman Returns".
Pat Hingle married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Alyce Dorsey whom he wed in 1947 and had three children with. When this marriage ended in divorce he married his second wife, Julia Wright in 1979 and they remained together and resided in Carolina Beach, North Carolina until he passed away on January 3rd, 2009 from blood cancer. His remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered in the Atlantic ocean.
