PAT FLAHERTY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Pat Flaherty was born on March 8th, 1897 in Washington, District of Columbia with the birth name Edmund P. Flaherty, born to Mary Rose Ella and Michael Joseph Flaherty. After graduating from Eastern High School he earned a degree from Princeton University in 1918.
He served during World War I in the United States military as a flying officer for the Signal Corps. He later went on to play professional baseball in the minor leagues for various cities and followed with playing professional football with the Chicago Bears in 1923.
Once he finished playing professional sports he moved to New York and found work the DeSylva-Brown music publishing company. In 1930 he moved again, this time to Los Angeles California where he found work as a producer with Fox Films. When the Great depression hit, he lost his job with Fox and instead turned to acting to support himself.
Soon he began appearing in such films as, "Death of the Diamond" (1934), "A Day at the Races" (1937), "She's Got Everything" (1937), "Always in Trouble" (1938), "Code of the Streets" (1939), "Boys' Reformatory" (1939), "Black Diamonds" (1940), "Flight Command" (1940), "Meet John Doe" (1941) and "Affectionately Yours" (1941).
He took a brief break from acting to serve during World War II in the Marine Corps. Upon his discharge from the military he returned back to his acting work and continued to add such film roles as, "Angel and the Badman" (1947) starring John Wayne, Gail Russell, Irene Rich, "The Babe Ruth Story" (1948) starring William Bendix, "The Stratton Story" (1949) starring James Stewart, June Allyson, "The Jackie Robinson Story" (1950) starring Jackie Robinson, Ruby Dee, Minor Watson, "The Winning Team" (1952) starring Ronald Reagan, "The Pride of the Yankees" (1952) starring Gary Cooper, Teresa Wright, Walter Brennan, Dan Duryea and "Latin Lovers" (1953).
Along with his film work, later in life he added a number of television credits to his resume such as, "The Life of Riley", "The Abbott and Costello Show" and "The Public Defender".
Pat Flaherty married twice, first to Dorothy Fiske, and they had one child together. When this marriage came to an end, he wed Dorothea X. Fugazy and they had two children together. After appearing on the television series, "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" (1954) and the films, "The Road to Denver" (1955) and "The Desperate Hours" (1955) starring Fredric March, Humphrey Bogart, Robert Middleton he then retired from the industry and passed away on December 2nd, 1970 in New York City, New York after suffering from a heart attack.
