Noah Beery Sr. ACTOR
NOAH BEERY SR. BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Noah Beery Sr. was born on January 17th, 1884 in Kansas City, Missouri to parents Noah Webster Beery and Frances Margaret Fitzgerald. He had a older brother, William C. Beery who also grew up to become a working actor.
At the age of fourteen he left his family to work as a newspaper boy in Kansas City as well as a candy concessionaire and lemon drop entrepreneur. In the early 1900's, Beery became involved in performing, first finding a job as a baritone singer and then working as a stock villain
By 1905, he was making appearances on Broadway and worked as a stage performer for about twelve years before deciding in 1915, to follow in his brothers footsteps and move to Hollywood to attempt a career in Motion Pictures.
One of his first films and what turned out to be one of his most well known films was, "The Mark of Zorro" (1920) in which his seven year old son, Noah Beery Jr. also had the opportunity to star in. This film role was followed by roles in such films as, "The Spoilers" (1922), "Beau Geste" (1927) and a western series called, "Zane Grey".
When the era of silent films ended and "talkies" came about, Beery had no problem making the switch. It gave him the opportunity to now show of his talented singing voice in such films as, "The Show of Shows" (1929), "Song of the Flame" (1930), "Bright Lights" (1930), "Under a Texas Moon" (1930), "Golden Dawn" (1930), "Cockeyed Cavaliers" (1934) and "Kentucky Kernels" (1934).
In total Noah Beery appeared in almost 200 films. Sadly as time progressed, Noah was not able to get the same caliber of roles that his brother was receiving and Noah was getting too ill to take on any big lead roles. He did continue to work and make small appearances. In 1945, he returned briefly back to New York to appear on a Broadway production, "Up in Central Park".
When Noah and his brother were scheduled to make an appearance together in a radio production of Barnacle Bill, Beery sadly passed away at the age of sixty two on April 2nd, 1946 from a heart attack. He was buried at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
