MONTE BLUE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Monte Blue was born on January 11th, 1887 in Indianapolis, Indiana with the birth name Gerard Montgomery Blue. At the age of eight he lost his father in a car accident and his mother was unable to support him along with his four other siblings, therefore, he and his brother were admitted to an orphanage.
While being raised in the orphanage he became involved in athletics and when he was old enough to be on his own he found work as a fireman, railroader, coal miner, ranch hand and even a lumber jack among other various odd jobs.
It was his job as a day laborer in California working for D.W. Griffith’s Biograph Studios where he first developed an interest in the entertainment industry. Soon he was working as a stuntman and his first film role was an extra in, “The Birth of a Nation” (1915). Other film roles followed such as, “Love’s Struggle Throughout the Ages” (1916), “The Grim Game” (1919) and “Orphans of the Storm” (1921).
The transition to talkie films caused no issues for Blue, however financially he was struggling due to the Stock market crash. He continued to work, but never really reaching a major successful level of stardom.
Throughout his lifetime he was married a total of three times. His first wife was Erma Gladys who he divorced in 1923 and had no children with. He then married, Tova Jansen in 1924 and they remained married having two children, Barbara Ann and Richard, until she passed away in 1956.
His third and final wife was Betty Jean Munson Mess from 1959 through his death on February 18th, 1963 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin after suffering from a heart attack.
