MINOR WATSON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Minor Watson was born on December 22nd, 1889 in Marianna, Arkansas.  Throughout the course of his career as an actor he would appear in over one hundred films and although he worked steadily, he never reached the level of stardom that he had hoped for.
 
His career in entertainment began working as a stage actor in 1911.  He preferred the stage of film work, however, working in Hollywood was how he supported himself financially.  
 
Watson worked for eleven years in stock theater with his final role on Broadway in a production of, "Why Men Leave Home", he then made the move to Hollywood and became a prominent character actor.  
 
One of his more well known film roles was when he portrayed Col. Grayson who was the commander of the Marines in the film, "Boys Town" (1938) starring Spencer Tracy, Mickey Rooney and Henry Hull, "King Rows" (1942), "Guadalcanal Diary" (1943) starring Preston Foster, William Bendix, Lloyd Nolan, Richard Conte, Anthony Quinn nd Richard Jaeckel.  Other film credits include, "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (1942) starring James Cagney, Rosemary DeCamp, Walter Huston, Joan Leslie, George Tobias and Jeanne Cagney, "Bewitched" (1945) starring Phyllis Thaxter, Edmund Gwenn, Addison Richards and Kathleen Lockhart, "The Virginian" (1946) starring Joel McCrea, Sunny Tufts, Brian Donlevy, Barbara Britton, Tom Tully and William Frawley, "The Jackie Robinson Story" (1950) starring Jackie Robinson as himself and Ruby Dee and "Trapeze" (1956) starring Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, Gina Lollobrigida and Katy Jurado, 
 
Towards the end of his acting career he also appeared on a couple television series such as, "Schlitz Playhouse", "Fireside Theatre", "Climax!" and "Cavalcade of America".
 
Minor Watson married only once to Elinor Hewitt and he passed away on July 28th, 1965 in Alton, Illinois.
