MILLARD MITCHELL BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Millard Mitchell was born on August 14th, 1903 in Havana, Cuba to American parents. In the early 1930's he became involved in the entertainment industry first as a stage and radio actor.
Mitchell then began adding a number of short film credits to his resume such as, "What Price Pants" (1931), "My Sin" (1931), "The Cheat" (1931) and "Dynamite Delaney" (1936). He then relocated to Hollywood and appeared in the films, "Mr. and Mrs. North" (1942) starring with Gracie Allen, Porter Hall, Paul Kelly, Virginia Grey and Tom Conway, "Grand Central Murder" (1942) starring Van Heflin, Virginia Grey, Tom Conway, Cecilia Parker and Connie Gilchrist, "Little Tokyo, U.S.A." (1942) and "The Big Street" (1942) starring Henry Fonda, Lucille Ball, Barton MacLane, Agnes Moorehead and George Cleveland.
Millard then took a break from acting to serve in the military during World War II and upon completing his service he returned right back to pursuing a full time career as an actor.
Some of his later career film roles included, "Kiss of Death" (1947) starring Victor Mature, Brian Donlevy, Colleen Gray, Karl Malden and Richard Widmark in his film debut, "The Gunfighter" (1950) co-starring Gregory Peck, Karl Malden, Jean Parker, Richard Jaeckel, Alan Hale Jr. and Helen Westcott, "Winchester '73" (1950) starring James Stewart, Stephen McNally, Shelley Winters, Dan Duryea, Tony Curtis, Rock Hudson, John McIntire and James Best, "Mt Six Convicts" (1952) starring alongside Gilbert Roland, Marshall Thompson, John Beal, Harry Morgan and Charles Bronson, "Singin' in the Rain" (1952) starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen and Donald O'Connor, "The Naked Spur" (1953) starring James Stewart, Janet Leigh, Robert Ryan and Ralph Meeker and "Here Come the Girls" (1953) starring Bob Hope, Tony Martin, Arlene Dahl, Rosemary Clooney and William Demarest. He also appeared on the television series, "Lux Video Theatre" and "Eye Witness".
Millard Mitchell married only once to Peggy Gould and they had two children and remained married until he passed away from lung cancer on October 13th, 1953 at the age of fifty in Santa Monica, California. His remains are buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
