MICHAEL CHIKLIS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Michael Chiklis was born on August 30th, 1963 in Lowell, Massachusetts with the middle name Charles, born to Charlie and Katherine Chiklis. As a young boy he expressed an interest in performing and participated in a number of local small stage productions throughout his childhood. After graduating from Andover High School he enrolled at Boston University's School for the Arts and earned a degree in drama.
Chiklis then relocated to New York City and began to pursue a career as an actor appearing on stage in such productions as, "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "As You like It".
It was difficult for him to really break into the industry, however he pursued for several years and soon he was given his first film role in 1989 in, "Wired", however the film turned out to be unsuccessful at the box office.
Chiklis did not give up, he continued attending auditions and was given the chance to make some more small appearances on the television series, "Miami Vice", "Touched By an Angel", "L.A. Law", "Murphy Brown" and "Seinfeld".
His first really successful role was starring on the television series, "The Commish" (1991-1996) where he portrayed Tony J. Scali, a police commissioner. Other roles that soon followed were his portrayal of Curly Howard on the television movie, "The Three Stooges" (2000), the film, "Body and Soul" (2000), the television series, "Daddio" (2000) and voice over work on, "Family Guy" (2000-2001).
Chiklis was then convinced by his wife to change his image and re-enter the industry. He shaved his head and completely changed his physical appearance and came back to auditions with a whole new persona.
With his new look and even portraying a new very confident attitude he was cast in such television series as, "The Shield" for which he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series and later received a nomination for a Golden Globe Award.
More recently, he has appeared on the films, "Eagle Eye" (2008), the television series, "No Ordinary Family" (2010-2011), the television movies, "Vince Uncensored" (2011) and untitled "Ralph Lamb Project" which is still in pre-production. Along with his film and television work he has also done numerous voice over projects for the film, "The Legend of Secret Pass" (2010) and the television series, "Robot Chicken" (2008).
In addition to his career as an actor he is also a musician and plays the drums, guitar and does vocals. His band, the Surgeon General, released their first single in 2011, 'Til I Come Home'.
Throughout his career he has received such awards as a Satellite Award in 2002 nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series and in 2003 he received a Screen Actors Guild award Nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.
Michael Chiklis has married only once to Michelle Moran in 1992 and they have two children and remain married today. In addition to his career as a musician and actor, he is also involved in a number of charitable organizations such as working with autism, The Children's Lifesaving Foundation, The Alzheimer's Foundation and he in involved in breast cancer research.
