Mel Gibson ACTOR

Mel Gibson was born on January 3rd, 1956 in Peekskill, New York with the birth name Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson.  He was the sixth born to a family of eleven children to parents, Hutton and Ann Gibson.  At the age of twelve, his parents left the united States and moved to South Wales, Australia.  When he graduated from high school, Gibson went on to study at the University of South Wales in Sydney, Australia.  It was his sister who set p an audition for him, behind is back which actually peaked his interest in acting so while in College he ended up, also performed at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts.
When he completed college he began his career in the entertainment industry as a stage actor and also appeared on a number of television shows.  His big break into the industry happened in 1979 when he was cast in the film, "Mad Max" followed by a role in the film, "Tim" (1979).  He earned an award for Best Actor from the Australian Film Institute and his career was off to a good start.
Soon he was seen in such films as, "Gallipoli" (1981), earning another award from the Australian film Institute for Best Actor and he followed with roles in the United States in such films as, "Bounty" (1984), "Lethal Weapon:" (1987), "Hamlet" (1990), "Bird on a Wire" (1990), "Air America" (1990), "Forever Young" (1992), "The Man Without a Face" (1993) and "Braveheart" (1995), for which he directed and starred in. The film garnished two Oscars for Best Picture as well as Best Director.    
He had reached a amazingly high level of stardom in Hollywood and continued to take on new and challenging film roles such as, "The Patriot" (2000), "Ransom" (1996), and "Payback" (1999).  Some of his most recent appearances on the big screen have been in the films, "Edge of Darkness" (2010), "The Beaver" (2011) and "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" (2011).
Mel Gibson also owns a production company called, Icon International that is in the United States as well as a branch in Australia and the United Kingdom.  He is also quite religious and has a private chapel on his property where he attends mass daily.  In 2004, he directed the film, "Passion of Christ" which caused media coverage again and was quite a controversial film.
He was suppose to be a part of the cast of "Hangover II", however, due to the other actors objecting, he was pulled from the production.  He is along with working as an actor and director, Gibson is also involved in investing in property.  He has properties in such places as Malibu, California, Costa Rica and Australia. 
Gibson has married only once to Robyn Moore whom he wed in 1980 and they have a total of seven children together.  In 2009, the couple's marriage ended in divorce and he has not yet remarried.  He also has an eighth child, Lucia born in 2009 from a relationship with Oksana Grigorieva. 
He has had a couple bouts with the law such as in 2006 when he was arrested for a DUI and had to serve three years probation.  Following this incident he admitted himself to an alcohol recovery program.  He has also had to deal with a restraining order from his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva and he has one against her as well.  Also recently, he has been in the media coverage for remarks he has made that insinuate that he is homophobic and racist, however he has made numerous public apologies a denies that he feels that way at all.
Throughout his career he has received a number of honors such as People's magazine naming him, "One of the 50 Most Beautiful People" in the World in 1990, 1991 and 1996.  He was also ranked #12 from Empire Magazine as, "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time".
