MAX VON SYDOW BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Max Von Sydow was born on April 10th, 1929 in Lund, Skåne län, Sweden with the birth name Max Carl Adolf von Sydow.  His father, Carl worked as an ethnologist and his mother, Baroness Greta was a school teacher.  At the age of nine he was already study other languages such as English and German. 
 
He first became interested in acting in High School when along with some friends they began a theater club that helped encourage other students to become interested in acting. 
 
Between 1948 and 1951 he studied acting at the Royal Dramatic Theatre acting school and then went on to work as a stage actor locally in Sweden.  When he started working with Ingmar Bergman on films, the international critics began to take notice of him.  In total they made thirteen films together, "The Magician" (1958), "The Touch" (1971), "Mr. Sleeman Is Coming" (1957),"The Virgin Spring" (1960), "Nattvardsgästerna" (1963), "Brink of Life" (1958), "The Passion of Anna" (1969), "Rabies" (1958), "The Seventh Seal" (1957), "Shame" (1968), "Wild Strawberries" (1957), "Through a Glass Darkly" (1961) and "Hour of the Wolf" (1968).
 
Soon Sydow was receiving offers to travel abroad and work on films with other directors.  Some of his better known film work were on such features as, "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (1965), "Hawaii" (1966), "Flash Gordon" (1980) as the voice of Emperor Ming and he also took a chance at directing the film, "Katinka" (1988).
 
As his career has progressed he has continued to make appearances on such films as, "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (1965), "Never Say Never Again" (1983), "Needful Things" (1993) and "Minority Report" (2002).  He even reunited with his old friend, Ingmar Bergman for the film, "The Best Intentions" (1991) after a twenty year break from working together.
 
Since he is fluent in so many languages including Swedish, Norwegian, English, Italian, German, Danish, French and Spanish, he has filmed in all these different languages which has helped his career and popularity tremendously.
 
Max Von Sydow has married twice during his lifetime.  His first marriage was to Christina Olin whom he wed on August 1st, 1951 and they had two children together before ending the marriage in divorce in 1996.  He then married again to Catherine Brelet in 1997 and they have two children together and remain married today.  In total he has four sons, Clas, Henrik, Cedric and Yvan.  All of his sons had the chance to appear in the film "Hawaii" with him playing the character of his sons at different ages.
 
In 2002, he received dual citizenship with France and Sweden and currently is retired living with his wife in Paris enjoying everyday life.
