LOUIS JOURDAN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Louis Jourdan was born on June 19th, 1921 in Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône in France with the birth name Louis Gendre, born to parents, Yvonne Jourdan and Henry Gendre.  He received his education in France, Britain and Turkey and even got some acting training with René Simon at the École Dramatique.

He soon began his film career working on a number of French romantic comedies and dramas.  His career came to a halt when during World War II his father was arrested by the Gestapo and he and his two brothers joined the French underground and he refused to act in any Nazi propaganda films.

His luck turned around when he was offered a job in Hollywood by director, David O. Selznick to appear in the film, "The Paradine Case" (1947).  It was this opportunity that opened up a number of doors for him to appear in Hollywood on a variety of films.  His best known film role was in, "Gigi" (1958).

Some of his other well known work were in such films as, "Three Coins in the Fountain" (1954), "The Swan" (1956) "The Best of Everything" (1959), "The Swamp Thing" (1982), "Octopussy" (1983).

Most people remember him for his most well known role in the film, "Gigi" (1958) which earned nine Academy Awards.  He also made a number of television appearances such as on, "Count Dracula" (1977), "Columbo" (1978) and "The First Olympics: Athens 1896" (1984).

He was nominated for a 1975 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Guest Artist when he performed in the stage production, "13 Rue De L'Amour" in Chicago, Illinois.

He married only one time to Berthe Quique' Frederique Jourdan' whom he wed in 1946 and they have one child together and are still married today.  Sadly in 1981 his only son, Louis Henry, committed suicide by drug overdose.

His final film role was in 1992 on, "The Year of the Comet" and he then retired from the industry and relocated back to France to live.  He was honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2010 was awarded Légion d'Honneur.
