LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Lou Diamond Phillips was born on February 17th, 1962 in Subic Bay Naval Station in the Philippines. He was born with the birth name Lou Diamond Upchurch to Lucita Aranas and Gerald Upchurch, and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. After graduating from Flour Bluff High School in Corpus Christi, Texas he enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington and later earned a degree in Drama.
After earning his degree he began to pursue a fulltime career in acting. He first appeared as an extra on the film "Time Bomb" (1984) followed by a small role on television on the series, "Dallas" (1985) and then his first real breakout role was in 1987 hit film "La Bamba" portraying the late rock 'n roll singer Richie Valens.
This role was succeeded by other films such as, "Young Guns" (1988), "Young Guns II" (1990), "The Big Hit" (1998), "Courage Under Fire" (1996) and "Love Takes Wing" (2009). In addition to working in films he also performed as a stage actor in such productions as, "The King and I" and "Camelot".
Phillips has also made numerous television appearances on such series as, "NCIS", "24", "Numb3rs", "Stargate Universe" and is on the Food Network reality series, "Rachel vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off" (2012).
More recently he has also worked on the television series, "The Aquabats! Super Show!" (2012), "Southland" (2012) and the films, "A Place Where the Sea Remembers" (2013) and the television movie, "Arachnaconda" set to release in 2013.
He is also an avid Poker player where he has competed regularly in a number of tournaments and finished 186th in the 2009 World Series of Poker World Championships in the "No Limit Texas Hold 'Em".
Throughout his career Phillips has earned a number of honors such as winning an Independent Spirit Award in 1989 for Best Supporting Male in the film, "Stand and Deliver" (1988). He was also awarded an Oxfam America Award for his dedication to end world hunger in 1993. Phillips is involved in a variety of charitable causes such as being a supporter of the 'Thoughtful House Center for Children'.
Lou Diamond Phillips has married three times throughout his lifetime, first to Julie Cypher in 1987, however by 1990 this marriage had come to an end when she left him to start a relationship with musician, Melissa Ethridge. He then married Kelly Phillips in 1994 and together they had three daughters, and remained married until 2007. His third and current wife is Yvonne Boismier whom he married in 2007 and they have one daughter together.
