LORNE GREEN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Lorne Green was born on February 12th, 1915 in Ottawa, Ontario Canada with the birth name Lyon Chaim Green.  His parents were Daniel and Dora Green, both Russian Jewish immigrants.  While attending college at Canada's Queen's University he began to develop an interest in acting and when he graduated he decided to abandon his idea of a career in chemical engineering and instead, he found work in radio broadcasting.  Soon he became one of Canada's top newscasters.

In 1950, Green relocated to Los Angeles, California in search of a career in the film industry.  It was not to hard for him to find work and he began working on radio, television and films.  Green is most known for his two very well known television western roles in, "Bonanza" (1959) and in the science fiction series, "Battlestar Galactica" (1978).  He was also the Monday night host for the CBS Radio show, "Sears Mystery Theater" (1979).  Green also worked on the film, "Peyton Place" (1957) playing the role of the prosecutor.

Along with film and television work, he also appeared on Broadway in such productions as, "The Prescott Proposals" (1953) and "The Dark is Light Enough" (1953).

He earned the nick names, the 'Voice of Doom' and the 'Voice of Canada' throughout his career.  The Voice of Doom nickname had to do with his deep voice and when he was a newscaster in Canada he had to report on all the horrific news about World War II.

Lorne married twice throughout his lifetime, First to Rita Hands in 1938 and together they had two children before the marriage ended in divorce in 1960.  He then married for a second time to Nancy Deale in 1961 and had one child before he passed away on September 11th, 1987 in Santa Monica, California after suffering from pneumonia caused from recent heart surgery.

Lorne Green is interred at Hillside Memorial Park, Culver City, California, USA.  He was awarded the Officer of the Order of Canada in June 27th, 1969 for his services to the performing arts and community and was also on one of four 51 cent Canadian's commemorative postage stamps honoring, "Canadians in Hollywood" in 2006.
