Leonardo DiCaprio ACTOR

Leonardo DiCaprio was born an only child on November 11th, 1974 in Hollywood, California with the birth name Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio, born to parents, George DiCaprio and Irmelin DiCaprio.  As a young boy, he already showed that he had a talent for working in show business so his parents signed him with a talent agent.  He attended Seeds Elementary School and then earned his High School diploma from John Marshall High.
He began with commercial appearances and a couple television small roles such as, "Roseanne" (1988), the soap opera, "Santa Barbara"  and "The New Lassie" (1989), before getting his big break on the film, "Critters" (1991).  He caught the attention of producers for the series, "Growing Pains" and worked very briefly on the show until it was cancelled.
He had now at least been given the chance to show Hollywood that he could act and a number of roles followed such as, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (1993), "The Quick and the Dead" (1995), "The Basketball Diaries" (1995), "Marvin's Room" (1996) and his biggest role to that point in his career in, "Romeo + Juliet" (1996).
He then became a household name when he starred in the film, "Titanic" (1997), which became the highest grossing movie's of all times.  His career continued with roles on such films as, "The Beach" (2001), "Catch Me if You Can" (2002) and "Gangs of New York" (2002).
"The Beach" was one of the films that was a risk as it was considered a low budget film at $50 Million.  It was a huge financial success grossing $144 million US World wide, although critics did not give him praise for the film and he was actually nominated for a Razzie Award for his work.
However, his career continued to be successful and he also remained involved in a number of other causes.  DiCaprio feels very strongly about environmental issues.  Some examples of him putting forth an effort is opting to fly on commercial airlines instead of chartering a private jet.  He also drives a hybrid car, has installed solar panels in his home and in 2010 he donated $1,000,000 to the Wildlife Conservation Society at Russia's tiger summit.
Along with acting, DiCaprio also owns a production company, Appian Way Productions which has released such films as, "Gardener of Eden" (2007) and "Orphan" (2009).  They also just acquired the rights to the Erik Larsen novel, "The Devil in the White City", which he plans to also star in.  Leonardo also continues to work in the industry and take on more challenging and demanding roles.

Some of his latest appearances have been in such films as, "Inception" (2010) and "Creed of Violence" scheduled to release in 2012.  Thus far in his career he has received a number of honors such as a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for, "Aviator" (2004)
He has not yet married, nor does he have any children.  He has been involved in a number of relationships with other models and actresses.  DiCaprio currently resides in Los Angeles, California and also owns an apartment in New York and an island in Belize, where he hopes to create an eco-friendly resort.
